Alatus has been picked to remake the 427-acre former ammunition plant site in Arden Hills, beating out two of the region’s biggest developers.
The Pioneer Press reports on the selection of Minneapolis-based Alatus— best known as a builder of downtown condominiums and the company that renovated Minneapolis’ troubled Block E — by a joint commission of Ramsey County and Arden Hills officials.
Alatus president Bob Lux, in a written statement, said the firm plans a residential community at the site, with a “vibrant walkable town center district that includes a diverse mix of retail and unique destination restaurants.” Neither Alatus nor commission officials would comment on details of the developer’s plan.
Alatus was a finalist alongside Ryan Cos. US Inc. and Opus, both of which have handled much bigger projects than Alatus and had paired up with nationally known homebuilders (Pulte Homes was Opus’ partner; Ryan was working with Lennar Corp.).
